Top Ten 2015 Releases I Meant to Get to But Didn’t
(all roads links lead to Goodreads)
- Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances by Neil Gaiman
As you come to know the enigmatic blogger behind Bookenstein, you’re sure to find out that I am absolutely IN LOVE with Neil Gaiman. It is my goal to own and read everything he puts out, so I nearly died when I got the news of the release of a short story collection by my fave. Of course, I’m a procrastinator to the extreme, so I haven’t quite gotten around to it (even though it’s been on my library wishlist since its arrival).
- Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon
I came across this one on Tumblr and was interested in the diversity aspect of it all. Hopefully, I’ll get around to actually reading it this year (this is another one that’s just been waiting on me at the library too many times to count. Whoops).
- Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person by Shonda Rhimes
I love Shonda Rhimes and everything she has brought to prime time TV. When my grandma first mentioned this one to me, I can admit that I was half-uninterested because I deal in fiction at all times. But I realized… I actually care about what this woman has to say. So, I’m super stoked to eventually read this one.
- An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
Another Tumblr recommendation that sounded super interesting. It’s a first book for Sabaa Tahir, but I’ve heard nothing but good things. Maybe this year?
- Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
This is the one book I have been hearing everyone rave about, and I wanted in on the action. Unfortunately… I never actually got around to buying this for myself any of the couple of times I came across it (even though the cover is the most beautiful cover I’ve seen in a while). One day… maybe… When will it be out in paperback again?
- A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
No one should be surprised here. It feels like everyone swears by Sarah J. Maas, and I really want to know what the hype is all about. Hopefully I’m not disappointed when the time comes.
- Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
I hear this book is a bit different in its presentation, and that got me so intrigued. Also, the cover isn’t half so bad (I judge books by their covers. Sue me).
- My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga
I honestly have no clue why I know this book exists. I just know that it does. It deals with the topic of suicide (so it should probably come with a trigger warning) which is why I think I haven’t gotten around to it yet. I have to be in a particular mood to put myself through something like that.
- Slasher Girls & Monster Boys stories selected by April Genevieve Tucholke
Oh, come on. A horror/thriller anthology? I’m down like Charlie Brown. Only… apparently I wasn’t as down as I claimed because I still haven’t seen or touched this book.
- Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling
The hype, man. Not to mention, my carpool buddy sings Mindy’s praises. I just want to know if the girl writes as funny as everyone claims she is, okay?

I can’t believe I forgot about a few different of these! I’m so terrible at this game! Six of Crows and Slasher Boys and Monster Girls are both on my TBR as well!

I felt the exact same way as I was looking through everyone else’s. I missed so many things that I was tempted to update this post with an “Honorable Mentions” section.

Right?! I can’t believe how many I totally forgot about! XD It’s hard, keeping track of all the awesome. I guess that means we both get a pass. :)

So. Hard. One of these days… I will just read all of the things as I find out about them so we won’t even have this problem. (Pfft. In my dreams.)

Bahahaha! I’m sorry, but…that’s just never going to happen! (for me, that is–maybe you can get it to work for you? if you do…let me know the secret!)

Lol. It will probably be a failed attempt. Though, if I happen to stumble around the secret to this, I’m definitely sharing it with the world. People need to know!

Great List!
I’ve read and LOVED Everything Everything, My Heart & Other Black Holes, and Why Not Me?. They are so great in their own ways! I hope you love then too! :)

Thanks! I’m glad you liked them. I can’t wait to get to them… hopefully… assuming I don’t procrastinate for yet another year.

I just got Six of Crows from the library–the edges of the pages are black! Always a fun touch.

Everything Everything is one of those books I’m tempted to pick up, constantly, but never actually get around to doing so. Illuminae was awesome. Six of Crows was okay. Good list. My TTT.

I’ve heard a few mixed reviews of Everything Everything, but the story seems interesting enough. Also, I need that cover in my life. I think I’ve been waiting for the hype to die down around Illuminae and Six of Crows so that my views of it aren’t affected too much by the hype. We shall see how long I can hold out, though. Probably not much longer.

The Illuminae *audiobook* was fantastic.

Ooo. That will be the next thing I listen to while at work then! …. right after I make it through A Clash of Kings.

My current Audible listen is Rationality Zero (author submitted), but I just downloaded Cannibal Corpse by Tim Curran and Darwin’s Radio by Greg Bear.

You have to tell me how the Cannibal Corpse’s audio is. I’m usually so picky about my audiobooks that I can’t force myself to listen to something if I’m not a fan of the voice.

The *voice* is fine, but the audio is a little iffy in the beginning. Not bad, just kind of…tinny.
