Top 2016 Releases: The One Where She Admits She *Might* Have Been Missing Out

This week’s topic is “Top Ten 2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To (But TOTALLY plan to).” What a mouthful. Also… only half accurate.

Let me explain. When I set out to read ALL OF THE THINGS last year, I knew of like… two books coming out in 2016. [Blah Blah Blah… I’m a disgrace to readers everywhere… Blah Blah Blah]. So, I hadn’t really planned on reading anything published in 2016 [/pauses here to allow for gasps of pure surprise and wonderment] Of course, as the year rolled on and I attempted to get into the trenches of book blogging, I did discover a few things that piqued my interest enough for me to acknowledge their existence but not enough for me to ever do anything about it. These are the books I’m going to talk about.

Will I read them? Maybe. Probably not. I’m flaky af. Would I like to if I had all of the hours in the world and none of the people bothering me? Yes. And that will just have to be enough for now.

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Things on My Christmas Wishlist

dearest-santa

Are you well? Is now the right time to start singing, “I don’t want a lot for Christmas. There is just one thing are just a few things I need”? I never got to write to you via Macy’s this year, so this will have to do. I imagine Mrs. Claus lets you get on the internet in this day and age, so I hope this message finds you in a timely manner… even though I’m sure you’ve come to expect nothing other than utter procrastination from me. Moving on! I’ve been a decent enough human this year, so I would like to make a few humble bookish requests. I totally understand if you’ve already finished my gifts for the year. Christmas is Sunday and all. However, if you could find it in your heart, these are the things I wouldn’t mind seeing under my beautiful tree this year.

Top Ten Tuesday: The One Where She Takes Us Back to the ’90s

FINALLY! I’m ready to jump back into the groove of Top Ten Tuesday. This week’s topic was a “Movie Freebie” which, of course, begged for me to deviate a little. I’m not really a movie gal, but I am a ’90s TV kid. From cartoons to feel-good family shows– you name it, I’ve probably watched it. It was just a great decade to own a TV. There was so much unapologetic (and positive!) black shows, and I lived for every moment of it. Yes, I’m one of those annoying people who gets caught up in the nostalgia of yesteryear. Deal with it.

So, here are they are. The ten shows that I will be keeping my DVR-finger ready for.

Top Ten Tuesday: The One Where She Admits to Being Fickle AF

Leave me alone. I know it’s Wednesday, but that doesn’t matter. You don’t get penalized for being late in the book blogging world (right?). Anyways…

I LIVE… well, sorta. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been around on the blog, so I’ve decided to revive myself a bit (and christen the little change) with my favorite weekly meme. This week’s topic is “Ten Books You Picked Up on a Whim” which is absolutely perfect for me. If you’ve been around the blog for a while now, you know that nearly everything I buy or read is totally on a whim. I thirst-buy… A LOT. I pick up books with pretty covers and intriguing names. Seriously, all of the little things publishers do to market the book to consumers from the bookshelves are the things that wrangle me in. So… here they are– my whimsical reads. Continue reading

Top Ten Tuesday: The One Where She Fangirls About Fellow Bloggers

I feel like I fall more and more in love with Top Ten Tuesday with each new list theme. This week is a bit different from the others in that we’re not all rehashing the same tired old lists of the books we want to read that we’ve been slacking on or the new releases we’re anticipating. Nope. This time around, we get to spread the link love to our favorite blogger and talk up ten bookish people (on any platform) you need to be following. I’m not really into social media yet, so get ready to blog hop! Honestly, it was kind of hard to narrow things down because I follow so many amazing people. So, I’ve decided to just highlight the ones that have me constantly typing their site addresses into my browser just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Continue reading

Top Ten Tuesday: The One Where She Attempts March (Book) Madness… Sorta

In the spirit of March Madness that is practically over, I decided to attempt a fun approach to this week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic. Originally, we were supposed to talk about the last 10 books we’d given 5 stars to, but we all know that I just don’t do that. Of course, there was the option to talk about the 10 best books (or, conversely, the 10 worst ones), but why be completely normal? Instead, I decided to set up my own bracket for the last 21 books I’ve read (plus one I put on hold) and pit them against each other in my own little version of March madness. Enjoy!

Top Ten Tuesday: The One Where She Exposes Just a Portion of Her Nearest TBR Pile

It’s Taco Top Ten Tuesday! After last week’s topic revealed many many many unpopular opinions, we’re toning it down a bit with “Ten Books On My Spring TBR.” I think I’ve talked about it before, but I don’t have one long overflowing TBR list like many bookish peoples. Instead, I have a couple of different piles of books I need to read eventually. Considering the fact that I’ve already deviated tremendously from the TBR list we shared back in January, you really shouldn’t hold me to any of these.

Fair warning, I’m not going to list too many new releases because I’m not really waiting on anything other than Saga which comes out in July, thankyouverymuch. Now, on with the show! Continue reading

Top Ten Tuesday: The One Where She Bashes Your Faves

Another Tuesday, another topic. This week we’re discussing well-loved characters that we hate and, in opposition, the hated characters we not-so-secretly stan for. Going into this was a bit hard because I really only started reading what everyone else is reading within the past couple of months. I had to dig deep for some names anyone I know and love would actually recognize, and I came up with this clusterfuck of a list. There aren’t actually ten names here. Sue me. Maybe this time next year, I’ll have more to offer. Until then… Here’s what I got Continue reading

Top Ten Tuesday: The One Where She Admits to Reading Something Else

Alrighty. I get it. A lot of us just know without a shadow of doubt what books will and won’t work for us– whether it be young adult fiction or paranormal romance. That’s a given. However, every once in a while you’ve gotta step outside of your comfort zone… otherwise you’re going to miss something truly amazing.

I was super thrilled about this week’s topic: “Ten Books I Enjoyed Recently That Were Out of My Comfort Zone.” You know, up until the moment I realized that last year wasn’t my best year of reading. I read like none things and only liked a handful of them. So, you’ll be getting my condensed version this week because I do what I want. So, without further adieu here is my fail list of things I actually liked. Continue reading

Top Ten Tuesday: Hey, book fairy, I have a musical request

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is my literal favorite: music & books. Not only does this take you slightly out of the realm of repeating the same old books every week, it gives the rest of the community a glimpse into what you hold near and dear. Because I believe you can tell a lot about a person by what songs they cling to the most.

As someone who used to rely solely on music for happiness, I thought I would jump into this week’s TTT topic (Top 10 Songs I Wish Were Books) with enough gusto to finish in no time at all. I was wrong. So horribly wrong. My musical tastes are a little… off the charts sometimes; but that isn’t even the main problem. The main problem is that I forget songs until my iPod digs them up from the trenches and shoves them in my face like “Look, dork, maybe stop listening to that same song on repeat for eleven days straight and check out this one from your youth.” So, it goes without saying this post is taking a lot out of me. But it’s done now, and I suppose I can let you see what I came up with. Enjoy! I got lazy, so not every song is getting a heartfelt explanation. Sorry not sorry. Continue reading
